The Used is an American rock band from Orem, Utah. The band was founded in 2001 and signed to Reprise Records the same year, they rose to fame in June 2002 after releasing their self-titled debut album. They followed up with their second album, In Love and Death, in September 2004 and their third album, Lies for the Liars, in May 2007. An EP, Shallow Believer, was released in February 2008 that featured most of the band's B-sides to date. They spent the entire year of 2008 working on their fourth studio album, which was released on August 31, 2009, called Artwork. Soon after a CD/DVD package named “Maybe Memories” was released containing unheard demos and a “behind the scenes” story of the band/band’s past. They followed up with their second album, In Love and Death, in September 2004 and their third album, Lies For The Liars, in May 2007. A few years ago, while preparing to send the album art for b-side collection Shallow Believer to his record label, Bert Mckracken scrawled the word “Artwork” across its cover in silver ink. The sentiment, which, to Bert and his bandmates in The Used, resonated with both extreme simplicity and indescribable complexity, said everything without really having to say anything. Jepharee Michael Howard (lahir 4 Januari 1979) adalah bassist untuk The Used. Jeph adalah anak tunggal, dulu dia seorang pramuka. Nama panggilan dari teman band nya adalah Jepha.

Sebelum Mckracken bergabung dengan The Used, Jeph adalah penyanyi, tapi masih lebih suka bermain bass. Pada usia 19 ia memiliki anak perempuan bernama Lillian, yang susah untuk dia temui (belum pernah ketemu) sejak lahir karena "hubungan buruk" dengan sang ibu.

Dan Whitesides ( 7 Juli 1980) adalah pemain drum resmi baru dari band rock Amerika The Used. Ia menggantikan mantan drummer dan pendiri band Branden Steineckert yang meninggalkan band pada musim panas karena perbedaan masalah pribadi dan musik 2006.

Kicked out of The Used- my brief letter

Fans & Friends,

As you may have heard I'm no longer in The Used. Quinn, Bert and

Jeph have agreed that they no longer want to play music with me. Im

truly sorry that it has come to this. I wanted you to hear it from me.

It makes me so very sad, breaks my heart. The band will carry on and I

will cherish my good memories. I am so proud of what the four of us little

nobodies from Utah accomplished. We broke out from nowhere, we overcame

so much, some say we helped pioneer a genre. I feel so very grateful for the

things Ive experienced, the touching stories I've heard from such die hard fans,

the incredible people I've met and places I've been. I'm such a lucky person. The

Used fans are so real and were such an inspiration on stage to look

out into your faces and scream, sing, cry, bleed and sweat together.

To anyone who ever supported The Used during my time with the

band.....I thank you sincerely. I don't know what else to say...

I wish Quinn, Bert and Jeph all the best! I wish them all the

happiness and success that they can achieve. I hope they continue

with the amount of success we've had and more.

I will carry on doing what I love which is playing drums and

producing bands. I've got a lot left to give and share with the

world. Thank you all so much for your kind words and support!!

UPDATE From Branden 8-02-07

Hello hello everyone and anyone that cares to read these. I'm just finishing up a late night in the studio working on a song I wrote...nothing special, just geeking with my stuff. So today (Aug 1st) marks one year exactly since I was kicked out of the used. It's hard to believe that it's already been a year. I guess time flies when....well, maybe time doesn't fly so much. It's been one hell of a year.... a whole lot of ups and downs. I guess it's only hard to believe its been a year cause everywhere I go I still get asked the same questions about Who I am and What band I am in. I've answered questions countless times about why I was kicked out of the used. It's funny, a lot of people have poor tact, I don't usually approach people and ask them about painful events in their life....like if I walked up to some guy I heard about and said "Hey bro, I heard you got fired from your job and your family left you?....Why?"..... haha, Whoa!! I'm just trying to buy some fuckin groceries, but I'll open that wound back up for ya so I can confirm or deny what shit you read about me on the internet. Hahah....However, this situation usually has balance because then I usually get to follow it with the story of how I joined my favorite band on the planet- RANCID. So really, I have no complaints. People like to think that because things worked out the way they did that it means it didnt hurt to get kicked out of my own band for standing up for who I am and what I believe in. Well it did, so fuck you if you think I'm not allowed to be a little bent. Although I kinda feel like a passenger forced to leave the Titanic before it entered icy waters, lets face it....I would not wanna be on that ship. Haha. So if ya see me out... don't hesitate to keep asking me the same painful questions, I'll try to answer politely. If you want to talk to me about RANCID.....please feel free. Now that the year anniversary is over... I'd like to stop talking about THE USED for good.
